Recipe Instructions
Additive Ingredients (800 grams of oils for 1.2 kg soap loaf mold)
- 16 g Sodium lactate 60% solution
- Mica (Golden Brown, Clementine Orange, Lemon Sherbet, Pistachio Green, Ultramarine Blue, Silken Lilac) approx. 1 g per 100 g
- Essential Oils (approx. 10 g)
- 1.70 g Copaiba Balsam
- 2.65 g Ylang Ylang
- 2.50 g Bergamot
- 0.80 g Linaloe Berry
- 0.55 g Thyme Linalol
- 1.15 g Cypress
- 0.65 g Star Anise
- 0.35 g Cistus
- 12 g Citric acid

Tool fashioned from straw threaded on a wire coat hanger to dip and drag colours upward along the whole length of the mould to be made in advance!!!
Prepare lye
- measure distilled water, weigh sodium hydroxide 304 g / 110 g (+7.5 g for 12 g citric acid offset)
- add sodium hydroxide to distilled water and set aside in well ventilated area
Measure sodium lactate (16 g)
Measure citric acid (12 g)
- note: if using ensure extra 10 g sodium hydroxide is used in lye preparation
Prepare oils
- weigh & melt hard oils
- add stearic acid to melted hard oils
- weigh liquid oils
- reserve 12 g for mica preparations
- add liquid oils to melted hard oils
Prepare mica (premix - like oil paint & pigment - at 1:1 ratio with reserved liquid oil)
using 6 colours batch divided at 40%, 15%, 15%, 10%, 10%, 10% (listed in pouring order) for rounded total pre-cook soap weight 1200 g
- 4.8 g Golden Brown
- 1.8 g Clementine Orange
- 1.2 g Lemon Sherbet
- 1.2 g Pistachio Green
- 1.2 g Ultramarine Blue
- 1.8 g Silken Lilac
When lye cools to 32 degrees centigrade
- add sodium lactate
Blend the batter
- add lye water to oil
- whizz to thin trace
- add essential oils
- add citric acid
- blend a little bit more, avoid going too hard to allow time to work the splash swirls
Divide the batter for colour & pour
2 x 15
Pour, allow 48 hours before cutting
Cure for 4-6 weeks
