Recipe Instructions
to make hot glycerine method: use 100% glycerine instead of water with the lye. (cuts down on cooking time)
recipe form soaping 101: 370g olive oil, 43g coconut oil, 43g castor oil
replace water content with vegetable glycerine
85g koh 2:1 170g glycerine
- must warm glycerine to 110 degrees in a pot on a stove (so koh can dissolve),
- then add KoH slowly and mix with spoon ( it will bubble remove from heat and stir and cont.)- can take 10 minutes or so and it can boil over. solution should be clear at the end.
- mix with immersion blender until thick then with spatula, once translucent let it cook for 1.5 hrs covered on low, mix again with spatula.
- check clarity and PH - 9 is good
- dilution 3:1 depending on primary oil used (this is olive oil based as per soap 101 recipe)
- bottle and enjoy - it should be high viscosity and lather is good
add solution to the oils in a bigger pot and stick blend it until well mixed (off heat) and it will thicken as it cools and it will become gelled\vaselliny, ideally let it cool to 100 deg and add3\4 water amount let it cool overnighy)
alternatively you can split water with glycerine. and dual lye. example 50:50 koh and Sodium hydroxide. 50:50 water and glycerine - after melting the koh and naoh in half the water amount, add water lye solution at 60 degrees slowly into the crockpot with melted oils at 60deg and blend. once mixed, add the glycerine -this will speed up the process- and blend until thickens and with spatula making sure sides are scraped. let it cook for about 30 minutes with lid on and stir. then let it cook again until translucent and vaseline, stirring every so often ( 2-3 hours)- then test clarity. once done add distilled water to dilute 2:1 and maybe add.
